Sound caused by vibrations

We have been experimenting with sound in our science work is term. Tis week we have learnt that:
1. sound is caused by vibrations
2. vibrations can travel through solids and liquids
3. some sounds are natural and others are man made

Please check out our photos below to see some of the experiments we have been performing to test that sound is caused by vibrations.

Soldiers in class

During this morning's English lesson we saw that some items had been left in class. At the front of the room was a jacket, helmet and bag. We delved deeper and discovered that the bag contained a gas mask, the jacket contained a photograph, cigarettes, playing cards and a crucifix and the helmet was incredibly heavy!

Therefore, we came to the conclusion that this belonged to a soldier from World War 2. We did some role play involved a soldier having to say goodbye to his daughter and we wrote some letters home after his first night in the army.

World War 2 begins...

A strange suitcase turned up in class today. As we walked into the classroom air raid sirens were going on and a suitcase case laying on the desk. We inspected it and this is what we found inside...

After studying the items we have come to the conclusion that this suitcase belongs to an evacuee.
