Eco-warriors' first task...

Lord Sugar has been busy employing 24 children into Eco-warriors this week. Each member received a badge after designing a form of transport that would be eco-friendly and writing to explain how it worked. Check out some of our explanations here:

Christian's Electric Lightning:

Katie's solar paneled car:

Alex's water car:

Ilana's Breadometer 3000

These employees were told that there may be promotions for some of them in the coming weeks.

The 9 children who were not employed by Lord Sugar this week have been given another chance in his latest task; to write a story involving a superhero and villain.

Lord Sugar recruits for Eco-warriors!

This week we were sent a letter and video message from Lord Sugar.

As many of us know already, Lord Sugar appears on The Apprentice and is very wealthy. he also runs a number of companies and he is after members for another one - Eco Warriors!

After we read his letter:

We watched his video message and we know what our first task was - to design a form of transport which reduces noise and air pollution, and explain how it works.

Check out our next blog post to see who has been accepted into Eco Warriors at the first time of asking!

Coding in ICT

In ICT this term we are studying coding and programming.

Coding is a set of instructions normally written by a human and executed by a computer.

We have talked about how important technology is in our daily lives, as well as listening to the creators and inventors of websites that have used coding e.g. Facebook, Twitter and Microsoft.

This week we used espresso coding to create a simple app using coding. We wrote code to enable the items to move across the screen, give a score when clicked and set a time limit.

Please take a look at some of our apps by clicking on these links:

Podcasts using Audacity

In ICT, before Christmas, we were learning how to use a program called Audacity.

This program allowed us to manipulate sound, add music, add sound effects and record our own voices.

We listened to other podcasts that have been created, along with listening to radio jingles.

We decided our 2 minute podcast needed to include an introduction where we introduced ourselves, a section of high interest to our listener and a news item. For each of these sections we created a script.

Please give some of our recordings a listen and let us know what you think by leaving a comment!

Information books using book creator

Before Christmas we created information books on the RAF, planes and the German Luftwaffe for tail-end Charlie.
In our book we had to include:

  • a contents page
  • an introduction
  • facts and information
  • pictures with captions and labels
  • headings and subheadings
  • a glossary

Here are some of the pages from a selection of our books.
